Business for Scotland welcomes new research from AXA Business Insurance that has revealed that 52% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Scotland surveyed favour independence.
We believe that the AXA survey, if anything, underestimates the support for independence within Scottish SME’s. Business for Scotland’s own polling has consistently found SME business to be more supportive of independence than the population as a whole.
This is because people who run their own businesses are used to examining the facts, evaluating their options and making their minds up more quickly. This survey therefore gives the best indication so far of the likely direction of travel of public opinion within Scotland as a whole, when we get closer to the real decision time in September 2014.
The role of Business for Scotland

Ambassadors from Business for Scotland have also spoken at dozens of events with combined audiences of thousands – and we are just getting started!
In Scotland SME’s business make up 95% of the business population. Support amongst the business community is growing all the time. Business for Scotland knows that there is more work to be done, and we will be listening to, and responding to the questions of business people and helping to open their eyes to the opportunities in the lead up to the referendum.
Conclusion
The scaremongering of “Project Fear”, (The No Campaign’s internal name for themselves), doesn’t wash with savvy businesspeople who are tuning into both the distinct business opportunities, and the opportunity that independence offers Scotland as a whole. Ultimately “Project Fear” will not wash with the general public either.
