Business for Scotland Responds to Nicola Sturgeon Bute House Speech

Business for Scotland welcomes announcement of intention to seek a referendum on Scottish independence

Business for Scotland Chairman Rob Aberdein has welcomed Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement that she will seek a second independence referendum, in the face of a deeply damaging Hard Brexit forced upon Scotland by the rest of the UK.

Rob Aberdein states:

“A Hard Brexit would be extremely damaging for Scotland, damaging exports and investment, driving inflation upwards and costing tens of thousands of jobs in Scotland.

“We welcome that the negative implications of Brexit will be outlined, alongside the challenges and opportunities of independence. Presenting a plan for maintaining prosperity for Scotland vs no plan from the Tory Government at Westminster.

“We assume that the UK PM will not agree to a differential deal for Scotland. So this will not be a rerun of the 2014 referendum. Brexit and the UK Government’s refusal to respect the EU referendum result in Scotland means that the UK that Scottish voters narrowly voted to remain part of in 2014 no longer exists.

“Business for Scotland will do everything we can to help deliver independence for Scotland so that we can create a better, fairer, more sustainable and economically successful nation where prosperity is shared.”

  • Many thanks, Rhona, for a very full business for Scotland report, particularly your response to Nicola – and the PM.

Keep up the good work, and keep them coming.
