Do you want to play a key role in Business for Scotland’s influential work on economic and business policy and help achieve Scottish independence? 
We are looking for a passionate and experienced advocate, organiser and policy researcher for this new position.
 
About BfS
BfS follows a pluralistic approach to economic and business policy thinking. We reject the restrictive labels of left and right; our members believe wholeheartedly that you cannot have a prosperous economy without creating a thriving society and you cannot create a thriving society without a prosperous economy.  This belief shapes all of our thinking, and the Head of Research and Policy role will help the CEO take our influencing and advocacy work to the next level.
 
The role
You will be responsible for contributing and leading key areas of BfS’s policy and advocacy agenda on business and economic policy. You will develop credible and influential policy positions based on solid research, provide informed analysis of policy developments and build effective relationships with government, international and national institutions, think tanks, and academia.
 
You will report to the CEO, manage research team members and work closely with other BfS team members in event and media management to deliver impactful policy positions. You will also lead on press monitoring for policy responses, compiling reports for Scottish and UK Governments and other groups, as well as publications project management.
 
The role will involve supporting, and in some cases managing, national campaigns on Scottish independence, championing pluralistic policy, Ambassador training and Brexit impact research as well as having time available for projects and policy areas that you wish to champion within the organisation.  
What we are looking for
You will have a proven track record in policy development, campaigning and influencing work and an understanding of influencing in a business and political environment. 
 
You will have an understanding of the key policy areas that BfS wishes to impact upon, experience of research project management and will be comfortable with data analysis.  
 
You will have experience working as part of a campaigning organisation and policy advocacy through public campaigning and media. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to co-ordinate and work effectively with colleagues across multiple locations and disciplines.
