Clyde regeneration and Glasgow Airport bridge plans move forward.
Made possible through the City Deal covering the Glasgow region, a £1.3bn project funded by the UK and Scottish governments, planning applications have been submitted for two schemes led by Renfrewshire Council.
Including work around Glasgow Airport, and new bridge over the White Cart Water and reintegration of the waterfront, of a road bridge across the Clyde between Renfrew and Yoker.
Bob Grant, chief executive of Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, said the City Deal projects would bring jobs and business benefits to the local area, “These major infrastructure investments will make it easier for employers to do business, easier for employees to get to and from their places of work and open up the potential for future investment.
“Around 1,400 jobs are expected during the construction period and a further 11,000 permanent jobs could be created through existing business expansion and new businesses being attracted to the area as a result of the City Deal infrastructure investment.”
Music tourism generates £334 for Scottish economy last year
Up 13% from 2015, music tourists to Scotland are boosting the economy by £334 million.
UK Music’s Wish You Were Here 2017 economic study shows that 1.2 million fans attended live music events in Scotland, and that most of these had travelled from other parts of the UK or overseas to attend (with only 38% of event goers being Scottish).
In addition to direct and indirect spending on the event ticket and transport etc, live music events are said to support 3,928 full time jobs in Scotland, as well as temporary work such as bar and security staff.
25 Scottish firms listed in London Stock Exchange’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain
The LSE’s Companies to Inspire Britain is an annual list of the UK’s fastest growing and most dynamic SMEs which aims to highlight the businesses seen as “our greatest prospect for building a resilient and productive economy that works for everyone”.
To be included on the list, companies needed to show consistent revenue growth over a minimum of three years – significantly outperforming their industry peers.
Of the 25 Scottish firms listed, more than half of them are located in the north and north-east.
LSE chief executive Xavier Rolet said: “When we launched the inaugural edition of 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain in 2013, we said our aim was to bring to life what we instinctively knew to be true: that these companies are the lifeblood of the UK economy.”
Nova Innovation to head up EU consortium on flagship tidal project
Tidal energy leader Nova Innovation has won a major new contract to head up a consortium of nine leading industrial, academic and research groups in a European project.
The €20 million Enabling Future Arrays in Tidal (EnFAIT) project builds on Nova’s existing operational tidal power station in Bluemull Sound off the Shetland Islands, which was the world’s first grid-connected offshore group of tidal energy turbines.
The project is a flagship initiative for the EU and marine energy, and aims to increase the commercial viability of tidal power.
It will extend the Bluemull Sound array to six turbines and demonstrate that reliability and availability can be achieved using best practice maintenance regimes.

The annual BBQ day for all the family will be held on 5th August by Dynamic Core Studios Clydebank. Open gym, free food and games are to be expected at this year’s Dynamic Core Sizzle (from 10am-4pm).
For the gym members, this is a chance to come to the gym and be a bit more social. The equipment is all still there and can be used throughout the day (by members or non-members) but usual training doesn’t allow for much more than superficial chats with those you see regularly. This is a chance to get to know each other better.
For non-members, it’s an opportunity to come and see what our facility is like, meet some new people, get some free food and hopefully kick-back and enjoy the sunshine and watch (or possibly take part) in the events we are putting together.
